Apalachee High School Shooting Victims Identified; 14-Year-Old Arrested
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has released an update following the school shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Four individuals were killed in the incident: students Mason Schermerhorn, age 14, and Christian Angulo, age 14, along with teachers Richard Aspinwall, age 39, and Christina Irimie, age 53.
Nine others, including eight students and one teacher, sustained injuries and were transported to various hospitals. Colt Gray, age 14, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Gray will be prosecuted as an adult and is currently being held at the Gainesville Youth Detention Center.
During a 9 p.m. news conference, the GBI provided the following details:
- There is currently no evidence suggesting the presence of additional shooters. Investigators are following leads regarding any possible associates of Gray.
- No list of targeted schools has been found, but investigators are thoroughly examining all recovered evidence to assess any ongoing threats.
- Earlier in the day, a threat was reported at another local high school. Police investigated and determined the threat was not credible.
The investigation is ongoing.
