GBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Roswell
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Roswell on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The incident took place around 2:40 p.m. after the Roswell Police Department requested the GBI’s involvement.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 1:55 p.m., a man boarded a MARTA bus and attempted to stab the driver. The man exited the bus without injuring the driver, who subsequently called 911. Officers from the Roswell Police Department responded to the scene and located the man walking along Alpharetta Highway near Mansell Road.
When officers approached the man, he brandished a pair of scissors and advanced towards them. The officers attempted to subdue him with a Taser, but were unsuccessful. They then shot the man as he continued to advance. Medical aid was administered on the scene, and the man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased man is being withheld pending notification of his family. An autopsy will be performed at the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The GBI will continue its investigation, and upon its completion, the case will be reviewed by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
