Savannah Police Corporal Injured in Motorcycle Accident During Vice President Harris Motorcade
Savannah Police Corporal David Bates was injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident around 7 p.m. on August 28 while working in support of the motorcade for Vice President Kamala Harris. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
“The Savannah Police Department is supporting Corporal Bates and his family as he begins his recovery from injuries sustained in this vehicle accident,” said Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther. “We will be by his side every step of the way.”
Corporal Bates sustained serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center for treatment. He is in stable condition and continues to undergo treatment.
“The Secret Service is aware of an incident that occurred during a motorcade movement yesterday,” said Frederick D. Houston, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Atlanta Field Office. “The movement was not affected by the incident. We are thankful for the support of our law enforcement partners and wish Corporal David Bates a full and speedy recovery.”
