Columbus Teen Dies in Shooting; 18-Year-Old Arrested on Manslaughter Charges

On June 17, 2024, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Columbus Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident in the 200 block of 20th Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 15-year-old male, later identified as Michael Scott, suffering from a gunshot wound. Scott was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional but succumbed to his injuries.

The Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Detectives identified 18-year-old Emauri Pippens as a suspect. Arrest warrants were issued for Pippens on charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless Conduct.

On August 26, 2024, the Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit apprehended Pippens on the outstanding warrants. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Muscogee County Jail. Pippens is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on August 28, 2024, at 9 a.m.
