Calhoun Man Charged with Murder Following Shooting Death of Teen at Resaca Party

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, Anthony Wilkinson, 25, of Calhoun, GA, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. The charges stem from the shooting death of Jeffery Tyler Ray, 18, of Rydal, GA.

The incident occurred at an outdoor party held at a residence off Sexton Road in Resaca, Murray County, GA. Murray County Deputies responded to the scene and found Ray with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Another individual at the party was also shot in the face and received treatment for their injuries.

Ray’s body has been transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

UPDATE: The GBI and the Murray County Sheriff’s office have arrested and charged TyKel Keshawn Hutchinson, age 19, of Rome, GA, and a 16-year-old from Rome, GA, with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder for the shooting death of Ray, that occurred Sunday, August 25, 2024, in Murray County. The GBI also arrested and charged Keano Nestor, age 17, of Rome, GA, with Tampering with Evidence.
