Former Convicted Statesboro High School Assistant Coach Arrested for Sexual Assault by a Teacher
On August 20, 2024, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit and the United States Marshal’s Services located wanted fugitive Jeffery Tyler Crowder. Crowder was arrested and transported to the Muscogee County Jail without incident. He was charged with the following:
- Felony Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for an Original Charge of Sexual Assault By A Teacher – 2 counts
- Felony Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for an Original Charge of Cruelty To Children 1st Degree
Crowder is a former Statesboro High School assistant coach. Back in 2014, he was arrested after being confronted by the school principal about the accusations. He admitted to investigators of having sex with more than one teen. Crowder also told investigators he met several teenage students at bars near the Georgia Southern University campus and entertained students in his home.
Police questioned seven female students who said they had all been inappropriately contacted by Crowder either in a social setting or via social media, as well as an eighth girl who graduated in 2013 who said she and Crowder had a sexual affair while she was a student.
In 2015, Crowder plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 15 months in a probation detention center and 10 years of probation. He also had to register as a convicted sex offender. A search for his name in the GBI Sex Offender Registry did not provide any results so he did not comply with the court order.
Crowder awaits extradition back to Bulloch County, Georgia.
