Man Shot and Killed After Dispute Over Comment Made to Young Girl at Decatur Gas Station
On August 13, the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) responded to a report of a shooting at the CITGO gas station located at 2399 Columbia Drive in Decatur, Georgia. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was shot after a dispute with two suspects. The incident, including the altercation leading up to the shooting, was captured on surveillance video.
According to witnesses, the confrontation began after the victim allegedly made a comment to a young girl. The man accompanying the girl reacted by becoming visibly uncomfortable and escorted her out of the store. Shortly after, the man returned and engaged in a physical altercation with the victim. An employee of the gas station attempted to intervene and deescalate the situation but was unsuccessful.
After the employee walked away, a woman who was also with the young girl approached the victim again. The surveillance footage shows the victim punching the woman before being shot multiple times by the male suspect. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The suspects, a male and a female, were quickly identified. The female suspect was apprehended on August 13, and on Thursday, August 15, the male suspect was taken into custody without incident.
