Lawrenceville Man Arrested After Foot Chase with Police K9
The Gwinnett County Police Department has apprehended 30-year-old Javaris Virgin from Lawrenceville for outstanding warrants following a pursuit tracked by a police K9. On July 29, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Royal Cove in Lawrenceville after Virgin’s ex-girlfriend reported he had injured her and damaged her phone during a dispute. The victim, who had requested Virgin return her car post-breakup, alleged that Virgin grabbed her wrist, causing visible injuries, and broke her phone. A witness’s video led to warrants for Virgin on charges including battery, criminal damage to property in the second degree, simple battery, and cruelty to children in the third degree. Virgin fled the scene before police arrival and was not apprehended that day.
On August 10, police were again called to the residence after the victim reported Virgin had punched her. Virgin was on the scene when officers arrived and attempted to arrest him for the previous incident. He fled from officers, leading to a brief foot chase that ended when he ran into a wooded area. Sgt. Doan and K9 Nitro were called to the scene and successfully tracked Virgin through several properties, eventually finding him hiding in bushes. Virgin was arrested and now faces additional charges of false imprisonment and obstruction of police officers.
