Carrollton Police Department Launches Community Camera Partnership

Carrollton Police Department Launches Community Camera Partnership

The Carrollton Police Department has introduced a new initiative designed to bolster community safety: the Carrollton Community Camera Partnership. This voluntary program invites residents, businesses, and neighborhoods in Carrollton to register their security cameras, providing the police with a valuable resource for investigating and deterring crime.

Participants in the program can register their cameras to notify the Carrollton Police of their presence without granting automatic access to live video feeds or recorded footage. Instead, this registration helps police identify potential sources of evidence during incidents. Additionally, participants have the option to integrate their live video streams into the Carrollton Police Department’s system, allowing officers to view real-time footage during emergencies, which improves response times and safety.

Data from these privately-owned cameras remains under the control of the owner, with all police access being carefully monitored and recorded. To engage with the program, residents and businesses can visit https://carrolltonpd.com/services/carrollton-community-camera-partnership for registration and integration details.

The initiative is supported by Flock Safety, a public safety platform known for its License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, which have been effective in solving and preventing crime throughout the city.

Lt. Blake Hitchcock stated, “Carrollton Community Camera Partnership represents a significant step forward in our effort to work alongside our community to enhance safety. This cost-effective, user-friendly platform provides us with critical investigative tools while upholding the privacy and integrity of our residents. Together, we are creating a safer Carrollton.”
