Suspect Shot and Killed by Cobb County Police During Altercation at Smyrna Walgreens
On Friday, August 9, 2024, at approximately 11:27 p.m., officers from the Cobb County Police Department were involved in an officer-involved shooting at the Walgreens located at 2670 Cobb Parkway in Smyrna, Georgia.
Preliminary reports indicate that officers located 32-year-old Nathain Jenkins of Valdosta, who was wanted by authorities, inside the Walgreens. When officers attempted to make contact, an altercation ensued, during which Jenkins, who was armed with a handgun, was shot by officers. Jenkins was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
A handgun belonging to Jenkins was recovered at the scene. The Cobb County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
Following standard procedure on officer-involved shootings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been requested to take over the investigation and will conduct an independent inquiry into the incident.
