Suspect Fires Shots in Decatur on Two Occasions, Arrested After Second Incident

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 6:25 p.m., Decatur Police responded to a report of gunfire in the 400 block of Church Street. The suspect in the incident pointed a firearm at another individual and fired several shots before both the suspect and the victim fled in different directions. The victim did not meet with police following the incident.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 7:25 a.m., the same suspect returned to the 400 block of Church Street. As the suspect walked down the sidewalk, he produced a firearm and fired a shot into the air. Decatur Police located the suspect in the immediate area and arrested him. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Deanthony Character of Oxford, GA, was booked into the DeKalb County Jail. He was charged with theft by receiving stolen property (firearm), terroristic threats or acts, reckless conduct, and discharging a firearm near a public street for both incidents.
