Two Arrested After Stealing Pickup Truck, Damaging Football Field, and Crashing During Police Pursuit
On August 6, Gwinnett County Police reported the theft of a Ram 1500 pickup truck from a driveway on Adams Acre Drive in Lawrenceville. Surveillance footage captured two suspects entering multiple vehicles before finding keys inside the truck and driving away.
The stolen truck was driven to Mill Creek High School, where it was used to damage the football field. Later that day, several Flock cameras in the Buford area detected the vehicle. Police located the truck behind a Walmart on Sardis Church Road, occupied by the suspects.
When officers attempted to box in the truck, the suspects drove toward an officer, nearly hitting him. A brief pursuit ensued, ending when the truck crashed into another vehicle on Hamilton Mill Road. Both suspects fled on foot.
The driver, a 16-year-old female, was tased and arrested by police. The second suspect, 17-year-old Robert Krause of Lawrenceville, was captured shortly after by the Gwinnett County Police Department’s Aviation Unit. Krause was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, and the 16-year-old was taken to a youth detention center.
The suspects face multiple charges including aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, hit and run, driving without a license, obstruction, giving a false name to an officer, theft by taking motor vehicle, and entering auto.
