GBI Investigates Fatal Shooting of Jackson Man at Butts County Event

At the request of the Butts County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents are investigating the death of Jason Maughon, age 44, of Jackson, Georgia.

On July 14, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Butts County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting incident on the 200 block of Peoples Road in Jackson, Georgia. The shooting occurred during an event at the location. Jason Maughon was shot and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Maughon’s body was subsequently taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, Georgia, for an autopsy.

In addition to Maughon, two other individuals were shot and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
