Suspect Shot After Firing at Atlanta Officer, GBI Investigating
At the request of the Atlanta Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. One man was shot and injured in the incident. No officers were injured.
On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at around 7:20 p.m., Atlanta Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of Peachtree Street regarding a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller, who indicated she had been in a physical fight with her partner, Tabiaus Sheely, age 24, of College Park, GA. The caller asked officers to remove Sheely from her apartment. Officers noticed bruises on the caller’s chest and head.
Responding officers went to the caller’s apartment to speak with Sheely, but he had already left the building. Another officer assisting the responding officers found Sheely near the entrance of the apartment building. The officer approached Sheely, who ran away. Sheely pulled out a gun and shot at the officer. The officer returned fire, hitting Sheely in the arm.
Sheely was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released into APD custody.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
