On Wednesday, July 17, the Macon Public Works crew commenced the demolition of the abandoned former motel located at the intersection of Ingleside and Riverside Drive. The site is being cleared to make way for the new Peer Support and Community Adult Center, a project spearheaded by River Edge Behavioral Health.

The new center is designed to support individuals facing mental health challenges or psychiatric disorders, offering a space for peer support and community engagement. River Edge Behavioral Health aims to provide resources for those struggling with behavioral health issues, including traumatic events, mental health concerns, and substance use, as well as individuals with developmental disabilities.

The facility will feature a 35,000-square-foot space, including large group rooms, a common area, arts and crafts rooms, calming rooms, a teaching kitchen, and an inclusive gymnasium. The center will focus on helping individuals gain independence through education, skill development, and community integration.

Cass Hatcher, Chief Executive Officer of River Edge Behavioral Health, emphasized the center’s role in enhancing independence and self-determination through ongoing education and skill-building. The center will offer a safe and welcoming environment for adults 18 and over, aiming to provide support through weekly group meetings and various programs.
