Gwinnett County Police Investigate Fatal Shooting in Norcross

UPDATE July 19, 2024: The decedent in this case has been identified as Gerardo Reyes-Fentanes, age 38.

UPDATE July 16, 2024: Detectives have arrested 20-year-old Ernesto Garcia-Bailon from Norcross, charging him with aggravated assault, felony murder, and malice murder.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on July 14, resulting in the death of a male victim. Officers from the West Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a person shot at approximately 9:00 p.m. near 4840 Jimmy Carter Blvd in Norcross (next to the Dominican Barbershop business). Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to provide lifesaving first aid, the victim did not survive.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit, along with the Crime Scene Unit and the Medical Examiner’s office, are currently on the scene. Initial reports suggest the victim was shot by one suspect near a wooded area behind the location. Investigators are interviewing potential witnesses and collecting evidence, while the Medical Examiner’s office will determine the official cause of death.
