Teen Identified in Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Clayton County, GBI Investigates

At the request of the Clayton County Police Department, agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia. The incident, which occurred on Chippewa Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m., resulted in the death of 18-year-old Hakim Al-Nas.

Preliminary information provided by Clayton County P.D. indicates that officers responded to a 911 call regarding suspicious activity at an abandoned home. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals exiting the home through a rear window, while two others remained inside. As officers approached those exiting, Al-Nas attempted to flee, prompting one officer to discharge their weapon, striking Al-Nas multiple times.

Al-Nas was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A handgun was recovered from the scene by investigating agents.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Upon completion, the findings will be forwarded to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
