Inmate Found Deceased at Washington County Jail
On June 25, 2024, at approximately 7:17 A.M., an inmate at the Washington County Jail was found unresponsive by a jailer. The inmate, who had been received from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for housing on June 14, 2024, was discovered in his cell alone.
Emergency Medical Professionals were called to the scene and determined that the inmate was deceased. The Eastman Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and the Washington County Coroner’s Office were notified to investigate the in-custody death, in accordance with policy.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. Initial indications suggest that the inmate may have died from a medical event due to an underlying medical condition. The investigation by the GBI remains active.
