Early Morning Shooting in Sumter County Leaves One Dead, One Injured

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office received a shots fired call in the area of Main Street, Desoto, at approximately 2:45 AM Saturday morning. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a large group of people gathered on Main Street.

One victim, suffering from a gunshot wound, was discovered and taken to the Emergency Room. A second victim had already arrived at the Emergency Room.

At approximately 12:30 PM, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that one of the victims had been pronounced deceased.

The investigation is active and ongoing. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are jointly investigating the shooting. The names of both victims are being withheld until their families have been notified.
