Hapeville Officer Arrested for Misconduct: Charged with Battery and Violation of Oath
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged Hapeville Police Officer Shevoy Brown, aged 29, of Hampton, Georgia, with Battery and Violation of Oath of Office. This action follows an incident on June 4, 2024, when the Hapeville Police Department requested the GBI to investigate a use-of-force incident involving Officer Brown.
According to reports, on June 3, 2024, Officer Brown responded to a call for service. During the course of duty, Brown arrested a man and brought him to the Hapeville Police Department for processing. However, it was alleged that while the man was under Brown’s custody at the police department, Brown repeatedly deployed a Taser on the individual in a manner inconsistent with departmental training and policy.
The arrested individual received medical evaluation and was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail on misdemeanor charges.
Upon learning of the incident, Hapeville Police Department Chief Bruce Hedley requested an independent investigation by the GBI. Currently, Officer Brown is detained at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
