Cordele Police Arrests Man Found Asleep at Wheel with Meth

On May 5th, 2024, Cordele Police Department officers arrested Triston Stephens, 25, of Ashburn, after finding him asleep at the wheel of an abandoned vehicle on the Interstate I-75 Southbound Off-ramp at Exit 99. Stephens was discovered to be under the influence and in possession of methamphetamine. Upon investigating, officers uncovered individual baggies of suspected methamphetamine, weighing over 9 ounces, along with drug paraphernalia including scales and baggies. Additionally, a mushroom-like substance was found in the vehicle. Georgia State Patrol aided in the investigation, and Stephens was taken into custody and transported to the Crisp County Law Enforcement Center after processing at the Cordele Police Department. He faces charges including Driving Under the Influence, Improper Stopping in the Roadway, and Driver to Exercise Due Care.

This marks the second trafficking case in a month for the Cordele Police Department. On April 14th, Lesteria Dean, 48, was arrested after attempting to flee from a traffic stop. Dean crashed into another vehicle occupied by a father and son but fortunately, no injuries occurred. He tried to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended. Dean faces charges including Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Oxycodone, Reckless Conduct, Drug Possession w/Intent to Distribute within 1,000 Ft of a Housing Project, Obstruction, Tampering with Evidence, Fleeing and attempting to Elude Police, and Abandonment of Certain Dangerous Drugs.
