Collision Involving Albany Police Patrol Vehicle and School Bus Leaves Pedestrian Dead

Albany Officers responded to a burglary in progress on May 10, 2024, around 10:49 am. While en route to the scene, their patrol vehicle collided with a Crisp County school bus at the intersection of 7th Avenue and North Jefferson Street. The impact also resulted in a pedestrian, who was near the intersection, being struck by the school bus.

The school bus was traveling southbound on Jefferson Street, while the officers were heading westbound on 7th Avenue. The crash occurred at the intersection.

All individuals involved, including the two officers, the bus driver, and the pedestrian, were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. As of Monday, May 13th, one of the officers remains hospitalized for recovery, while the second officer and the occupants of the bus have been released.

In response to the incident, the Albany Police Department has called in the Georgia State Patrol to conduct an investigation. Witnesses in the area have been interviewed to assist with the investigation process.
