Emory Campus Protest Prompts Police Assistance Amidst Refusal to Disperse

On April 25, 2024, the Emory Police Department sought aid in managing a protest unfolding on their campus. Despite repeated requests from Emory Police, a gathering comprising both students and non-students declined to disperse. Consequently, Emory Police enlisted support from allied law enforcement units, including the Atlanta Police Department (APD). Despite additional dispersal directives, the assembly persisted.

In response to Emory’s appeal, law enforcement commenced assisting Emory PD in safeguarding the campus. Regrettably, officers encountered violence upon doing so. Although APD personnel employed chemical irritants during the confrontation, rubber bullets were not deployed.

Authorities emphasize the importance of safety and advocate for peaceful methods of expressing free speech. Emory Police Department leads the operation.
