Columbus Man Wanted for Murder Arrested in Montgomery, Alabama

On April 8, 2024, the Columbus Police Department received notification of the arrest of Walter Young in Montgomery, Alabama. Young was wanted in connection to the shooting incident that occurred on March 16, 2024, on Schaul Street in Columbus.

The warrants issued for Young include charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault. Additionally, he faces charges for Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree, with six counts.

The incident on March 16, 2024, occurred at 1:49 p.m. in the 2500 block of Schaul Street. Upon responding to the scene, Columbus Police Officers found Shantavia Walden deceased from a gunshot wound. Another victim, identified as Gerald Ford, was also found with gunshot wounds and was rushed to Piedmont Hospital, where he remains in Critical Condition.

Young will be extradited to Columbus, Georgia.
