The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has announced the temporary closure of its Airport Station for renovation works. The closure, set to last for six weeks from Monday, April 8 to Sunday, May 19, aims to enhance safety and aesthetics at one of the world’s busiest airports.

During this period, MARTA will replace floor tiles and prepare the site for a new canopy structure on both the concourse and platform levels. To ensure continued service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, MARTA will operate a bus shuttle between College Park Station and the North Terminal Lower Level, running from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

The renovation project, which began in June 2022, includes various improvements such as elevator installation, vestibule replacement, and electrical upgrades. MARTA plans to replace ceilings and lighting, establish a new RideStore, install public art, and fully renovate employee spaces as part of the rehabilitation effort.

MARTA General Manager and CEO, Collie Greenwood, emphasized the importance of safety during the renovation period and encouraged travelers and airport employees to allow for additional travel time. Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari expressed support for the upgrades, urging cooperation and patience from the airport community.

Beginning April 8, travelers are advised to use College Park Station and take the shuttle service to the airport. Shuttle pick-up and drop-off points will be conveniently located near the North Terminal Lower Level.

MARTA will provide signage and announcements throughout the rail system and at the airport to guide passengers during the closure period. International arrivals are instructed to utilize airport shuttles to reach MARTA services at the Domestic Terminal.

For those hosting visitors during the closure, MARTA advises informing them to catch the shuttle at the designated locations below North Baggage Claim to connect with College Park Station.

The renovation aims to enhance the overall travel experience and ensure the safety of passengers and workers.
