Atlanta Man Convicted of Armed Robbery and Fatal Shooting in DeKalb County Apartment
In a recent announcement, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston revealed the outcome of a jury trial involving an Atlanta man accused of a fatal shooting. The jury returned with guilty verdicts against Chris Jackson, aged 20, on multiple charges including Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.
The incident, which took place on August 30, 2022, saw officers responding to a shooting at an apartment on Bedevere Circle in unincorporated Decatur. Upon arrival, they found Travies Thomas, aged 40, with fatal gunshot wounds. Investigations uncovered five bullet casings at the scene and revealed that two safes in the apartment had been tampered with, one found empty.
Witness accounts indicated that a masked individual had entered the apartment, fired shots, and stolen items before fleeing. Security camera footage captured a black BMW SUV parked outside the apartment, with two suspects entering and leaving the scene carrying stolen items.
Further investigation linked the vehicle to Defendant Jackson’s girlfriend, Enexia Liggons, who identified Jackson and another individual, Joe Noel, as the suspects involved.
During the trial, Jackson maintained his innocence, claiming he was at the apartment to buy drugs and denying involvement in the shooting. However, the jury found him guilty, resulting in a sentence of two consecutive life terms plus 30 years by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams.
Meanwhile, Defendant Noel pleaded guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter and awaits sentencing at a later date, while charges against Defendant Liggons remain pending.
