Manhunt Underway for Suspect in Fayetteville Walmart Shooting
Fayetteville Police are actively searching for 19-year-old Adrian Jelks following a shooting incident at the entryway of a Walmart store on Friday. Citizens are urged to call 911 immediately if they spot Jelks and not approach him as he is assumed to be armed.
The shooting, which occurred around 10 p.m. Friday, prompted a swift response from law enforcement after receiving a “shots fired” call. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes, but the suspect had already fled in a vehicle, later found abandoned. Multiple agencies are collaborating in the search for Jelks.
Contrary to an active-shooter situation, authorities believe the incident was not random. However, the motive remains unclear.
Two victims, an adult male and a juvenile female, sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to local hospitals. The adult male is in critical condition, while the juvenile female is reported to be stable.
Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact 911.
UPDATE: Jelks is in custody according to Fayetteville Police. He was arrested April 3, 2024.
