Suspect in Columbus Shooting Arrested in Alabama
On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, the Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, in collaboration with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, successfully apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting incident. The suspect, identified as Jonathan Provo, was being sought after an investigation initiated on Sunday, March 17, 2024, following a shooting at a residence.
According to reports, at approximately 11:09 p.m. on March 17, authorities began their inquiry into the shooting incident, ultimately identifying Jonathan Provo as the suspect. Subsequently, warrants were issued for his arrest.
Fast forward to Tuesday, March 26, 2024, when law enforcement officers from the Fugitive Unit, surveilling a residence in Phenix City, Alabama, spotted Jonathan Provo exiting the premises and entering a vehicle. The Russell County Sheriff’s Office was alerted, and they collaborated to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The operation culminated in the apprehension of Provo without any untoward incidents.
Following his arrest, Jonathan Provo signed a Waiver of Extradition, facilitating his return to Columbus to face charges. He stands accused of multiple offenses, including six counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
