Woman Shot in Domestic Incident; Suspect Apprehended After Standoff
Gwinnett County Detectives are currently investigating a domestic-related shooting incident that left one adult female injured. The incident unfolded earlier today at around 2:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Ivey Pointe Drive, located in unincorporated Lawrenceville.
Upon receiving a report of a person shot, officers from the Bay Creek precinct swiftly responded to the scene. They found an adult female with a gunshot wound to her rear shoulder. Paramedics provided immediate medical attention to the victim, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, officers secured the area for investigation.
According to preliminary details, the shooting appears to stem from a domestic altercation between the victim and her partner. The suspect has been identified as Anthony Young, aged 37, originally from South Carolina. Young faces charges including Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Crimes, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. As of now, Young’s whereabouts remain unknown.
In a significant development, officers from the Bay Creek precinct spotted the suspect returning to the scene around 10:00 p.m. yesterday. Officers secured the residence and attempted to negotiate Young’s surrender. However, after multiple unsuccessful attempts, the SWAT team was deployed.
Following a tense standoff lasting several hours, the SWAT team successfully apprehended Anthony Young without further incident. He is currently being held in the Gwinnett County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
