Lawrenceville Police Apprehend Suspect in Highway Road Rage Shooting

Lawrenceville Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire on February 26th just before 4:00 PM near SR 316 EB at Duluth Highway. Witnesses reported that shots were fired from a Sports Utility Vehicle into another vehicle. Officers swiftly located the victims and initiated investigations.

The victims, both the driver and passenger, were targeted by the assailant while traveling on SR 316. Fortunately, neither victim was hit by the bullets, but the driver sustained injuries from shattered glass. Bullet holes were found in the headrests of both seats.

Detectives identified the suspected shooter as 41-year-old Charles Ray Montgomery of Dacula. Less than 24 hours later, LPD Officers spotted Montgomery and apprehended him following a felony stop. Several firearms were recovered during the investigation.

Montgomery faces multiple charges including two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and Felony Possession of a controlled substance. He is currently detained at Gwinnett County Jail.
