GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Near Six Flags Parks

At the request of the Cobb County Police Department (CCPD), agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, March 2, 2024, near Six Flags Parks in Cobb County, Georgia. The incident resulted in the injury of a 15-year-old minor, while no officers were harmed.

Preliminary information suggests that CCPD officers were dispatched to assist with crowd control near the park’s entrance following multiple altercations among departing patrons. Amidst the chaos, multiple individuals began firing shots, striking an unoccupied CCPD marked patrol car. Responding officers identified the source of the gunfire and pursued individuals fleeing into nearby woods.

During the pursuit, a CCPD officer discharged their weapon, injuring one minor. The injured minor was promptly transported to Grady Hospital for treatment and is currently listed in critical condition. Police recovered a handgun in close proximity to the minor.

The GBI has taken charge of an independent investigation into the incident. Once concluded, the findings will be handed over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
