Fatal Structure Fire Claims Life Despite Efforts of Atlanta Fire Rescue

In the early hours of Thursday, February 22, 2024, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) responded to reports of a structure fire with a possible entrapment in the 1900 block of Morehouse Drive NW.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with distressing cries as a woman informed them of a man still inside the burning residence. Rushing into action, firefighters entered the home through a rear entrance and located an unconscious male, approximately 65 years old, in a bathroom. The man had sustained second- and third-degree burns to his legs.

Efforts were immediately initiated to extract the victim from the premises and administer medical aid, including CPR. Grady EMS, accompanied by a firefighter, transported the patient to Grady Emergency Room for urgent medical attention.

Despite the intensive life-saving measures applied, the individual was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Firefighters diligently engaged in an offensive fire attack to quell the blaze. There were no further injuries reported at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities.
