Atlanta Police Officer Fires Weapon During Vehicle Break-In Incident

On February 13, 2023, around 7:58 p.m., an Atlanta Police Sergeant on patrol near 241 Forsyth St. SW noticed what seemed to be a vehicle break-in occurring.

A vehicle parked on the street had its rear window shattered, with broken glass scattered on the ground nearby, and a male individual was discovered in the backseat of the vehicle.

Upon approaching the scene, the Sergeant discharged their firearm during the encounter. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was promptly transported to the hospital. The suspect remained conscious and alert during transit. Additionally, a firearm was found on the suspect’s person.

The Sergeant involved did not suffer any injuries.

In response to the incident, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to the scene and will assume primary responsibility for the ongoing investigation. Further details are forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
