Teen Fatally Shot by Clayton County Police During Incident at Vacant Home
Clayton County Police Chief Kevin Roberts addressed the public today regarding an officer-involved shooting in Rex, Georgia. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024. According to Chief Roberts, four teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, entered a vacant home on Chippewa Drive. Concerned neighbors observed the teens entering through a window and called 911.
Upon arrival, officers instructed all four teens to exit the home. Three complied, but one 18-year-old male emerged from the back of the house armed with a weapon. Chief Roberts stated that despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the teen did not comply and attempted to flee. The officer involved in the incident discharged their weapon, resulting in the death of the 18-year-old.
The names of those involved have not been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) is conducting an investigation into the shooting. The officer who fired the shot has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
