Shoplifting Suspect Carjacks Vehicle, Shot and Killed by Milton Police Officer

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Milton, Georgia, following a request from the Milton Police Department. The incident occurred on June 14, 2024, and resulted in the death of 31-year-old Shantidra Harris of Atlanta and the injury of a Milton police officer.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., Milton P.D. responded to a report of shoplifting at Kohl’s on Highway 9. Officers located a red Dodge Journey allegedly involved in the incident and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the Dodge continued driving and pulled into the Walmart parking lot on Windward Parkway.

The vehicle stopped, and two suspects fled. The driver, a woman, was apprehended, while a male suspect escaped. Harris carjacked a white Toyota Corolla in an attempt to flee. She accelerated the vehicle with an officer in front of it. The officer, struck by the car, discharged his weapon, hitting Harris.

Harris was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The officer received treatment for his injuries and has been released.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation, after which the findings will be submitted to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
