Henry County Murder Suspect Shot by Officers After Chase and Gunfire in Ashburn, GBI Says

ASHBURN, Ga. – A man wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Henry County was shot multiple times by law enforcement officers Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, after authorities tracked his SUV to a Turner County convenience store and pursued him through Ashburn, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The man was transported to a regional hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. No deputies were injured.
The incident began around 2:02 p.m. when the Turner County Sheriff’s Office received a statewide be-on-the-lookout alert for a man identified as a suspect in a murder that occurred Oct. 2 in Henry County.
The alert included the suspect’s identifying information, a description of his SUV and information from a Flock Safety automated license plate recognition camera indicating the vehicle had recently been detected in Turner County.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., a Turner County deputy spotted the SUV at the Circle K convenience store at 823 E. Washington Ave. in Ashburn.
The deputy notified other law enforcement officers, who responded to assist.
According to the GBI, officers approached the SUV and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle. The man refused to comply and drove away, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, law enforcement officers performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to crash in the 900 block of South Main Street in Ashburn.
As officers approached the crashed vehicle, the man allegedly pointed a firearm out of the SUV’s window and fired.
Several officers returned fire, striking the man multiple times, the GBI said.
Emergency personnel transported him to a regional hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity or provided details about the Henry County homicide investigation that prompted the statewide alert.
The GBI also has not disclosed how many officers fired their weapons or whether any officers were struck by the suspect’s gunfire.
GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting
The Turner County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
The investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the pursuit, the man’s alleged gunfire and the officers’ use of deadly force.
The GBI said its investigation remains active.
