Woman Arrested After Dog Abandoned Outside Hawkinsville City Hall

HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. – A woman was arrested after deputies used surveillance video and license plate reader cameras to investigate a dog abandoned outside Hawkinsville City Hall, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded Sept. 1 after receiving a report that a dog had been left at the front entrance of City Hall.

Working with city officials, investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident.

Deputies then used Flock license plate reader cameras to locate the vehicle and identify a female suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities located the woman later that same day and arrested her on a charge of abandonment of a domesticated animal. The sheriff’s office said she also faces additional drug-related charges but did not release details about those offenses.

The woman’s name was not released.

The sheriff’s office said Hawkinsville Animal Control and city officials assisted with the investigation and care of the abandoned dog. Authorities did not provide information about the dog’s condition or where it was taken after being found.

The case marked the second time in two weeks that the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant in an investigation involving alleged animal cruelty.
