Man Killed in Late-Night Shooting on Victory Drive in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ga. — A 37-year-old man has died following a late-night shooting in Columbus, according to police.
Officers were dispatched around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, to the 3400 block of Victory Drive in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a male victim, later identified as Calvin Mitchell, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel transported Mitchell to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he later died from his injuries.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and through their investigation identified 50-year-old Dwayne Quarles as a suspect. Quarles was arrested on Friday, April 3rd. The arrest was carried out through a coordinated effort between CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT Team. He has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
