Remains Found Near Gwinnett Hospital Identified as Man Missing Since 2020
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Human skeletal remains discovered during construction in 2025 have been identified as a man who had been missing for nearly five years, authorities announced.
The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office, in partnership with the Lawrenceville Police Department, confirmed the remains belong to Timothy Mitchell Williams, who was last seen in 2020.
Construction workers expanding Northside Hospital Gwinnett near Highway 316 and the Highway 120 exit discovered the remains on February 10, 2025. Investigators responded to process the scene, but initial efforts were unable to determine the identity of the remains.
Over the following year, investigators reviewed numerous missing persons cases while working to identify the individual. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted early in the process, with a forensic artist creating a sketch based on the skull to aid identification efforts.
Authorities later enlisted DNASolves/Othram to conduct forensic genetic genealogy testing. In early 2026, the analysis generated leads pointing to possible relatives. Investigators contacted those individuals and learned of Williams, who had been reported missing in 2020.
Detectives then obtained a DNA sample from Williams’ mother, which was compared to DNA extracted from the remains. The results confirmed a positive match.
Williams was last known to be alive on July 18, 2020. During his final conversation with his mother, he told her to keep his cellphone and said he would call later. He was never heard from again. His last known location was near his residence in Duluth.
Officials described Williams as a business owner, athlete, and animal lover who had a passion for skiing and cared for multiple pets.
Authorities said the identification was made possible through collaboration between local investigators, forensic specialists, and genetic genealogy experts.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death remains ongoing.
