Teen Arrested With Loaded AR-15 Pistol During Bibb County Traffic Stop
MACON, Georgia – A 16-year-old was taken into custody after deputies discovered a loaded AR-15-style pistol during a traffic stop in Bibb County.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Investigator Steve Gatlin was working a burglary suppression detail when he responded to a commercial alarm call at the Presidential Parkway shopping center. While in the area, he observed a Mercedes-Benz leaving the shopping center at a high rate of speed.
Gatlin initiated a traffic stop on Log Cabin Drive. During the stop, the driver immediately handed over a small amount of marijuana. As deputies continued their investigation, a loaded firearm was observed on the floorboard near the teenager.
Authorities recovered an AR-15 pistol from the front passenger floorboard. The weapon was equipped with a 30-round magazine and had a round chambered.
The 16-year-old was taken into custody at the scene. The driver was issued a citation for possession of a small amount of marijuana and released.
