Macon Man Dies After Early Morning Shooting on Houston Avenue

Macon, GA — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning outside a residence in Macon.

According to authorities, the incident was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center just before 1:00 a.m. on March 7 in the 3400 block of Houston Avenue.

Deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report of a person down.

When deputies arrived, they found a 42-year-old man, identified as Marquiz Hoges of Macon, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics responded and transported Hoges to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Medical staff later pronounced Hoges dead at the hospital.

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley confirmed that the victim’s next of kin has been notified.

Officials said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
