RABUN COUNTY, Ga. – A Rabun County man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies following an investigation into an assault reported last month, according to the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mark Gerrells said deputies responded on Jan. 21, 2026, to a reported assault near the 1200 block of Old Highway 441 South. The victim reported being assaulted by Robert Moon, and deputies documented visible injuries during their initial response.

As the investigation continued, the victim reported additional acts of violence, including strangulation and sexual assault, authorities said.

Based on the findings, investigators obtained warrants charging Moon with battery, criminal trespass with damage, aggravated assault, and exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult. Moon was later located and arrested by deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Gerrells commended the deputies and investigators involved for their work on the case and emphasized that the charges are allegations.

“As with all cases, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” Gerrells said.
