MACON, Georgia – Authorities have arrested a 21-year-old Macon man in connection with a death investigation stemming from a fatal hit-and-run on Rocky Creek Road last year, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division confirmed that Carmelo Aamir Johnson was taken into custody Tuesday, February 3rd, just after noon by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the sheriff’s office Sheriff’s Response Team. Johnson was wanted in Bibb County in connection with the death of Ronni Nykole Abbott on Aug. 28, 2025.

Johnson had been wanted mid December, 2025. It took almost two months, but he is finally behind bars.

Investigators said deputies originally responded just before 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2025, to the 2200 block of Rocky Creek Road while following up on a missing person case. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a woman on the roadside who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. The victim, later identified as Abbott, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson was transported to the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division for questioning and later booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

He has been charged with hit and run resulting in death, first-degree felony homicide by vehicle, and felony probation violation. Authorities said Johnson is currently being held without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
