Bibb County Sheriff Shares Holiday Safety Tips for Shoppers and Travelers

As the holiday season approaches, Sheriff David Davis and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office have released a comprehensive list of safety tips to help residents stay secure while shopping, traveling, and celebrating.

Shopping Safety Tips

  • Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings, avoid overloading yourself with packages, and be cautious of strangers.
  • Shop in Groups: There is safety in numbers. Plan trips with friends or family and remain vigilant together.
  • Parking Lot Safety: Lock your vehicle, hide valuables, and park in well-lit areas. Look around and inside your vehicle before entering.

Online Shopping Precautions

  • Ensure your devices have updated security software.
  • Shop only on secure websites, indicated by a closed padlock icon or “https” in the URL.
  • Avoid making purchases on unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.

Home and Package Security

  • Lock doors and windows at all times, and use timers on lights to make your home appear occupied.
  • Keep gifts out of view from windows, and teach children not to open doors for anyone without approval.
  • When ordering packages, opt for secure delivery options or send items to locations where someone will be available to receive them.

Holiday Travel Tips

  • Let a trusted neighbor or friend know your travel plans, and ask them to collect your mail and monitor your home.
  • Stay informed about weather conditions, plan for inclement weather, and drive with caution.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity or crimes to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500. For emergencies, call 911.
