As the holiday season approaches, Sheriff David Davis and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office have released a comprehensive list of safety tips to help residents stay secure while shopping, traveling, and celebrating.
Shopping Safety Tips
- Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings, avoid overloading yourself with packages, and be cautious of strangers.
- Shop in Groups: There is safety in numbers. Plan trips with friends or family and remain vigilant together.
- Parking Lot Safety: Lock your vehicle, hide valuables, and park in well-lit areas. Look around and inside your vehicle before entering.
Online Shopping Precautions
- Ensure your devices have updated security software.
- Shop only on secure websites, indicated by a closed padlock icon or “https” in the URL.
- Avoid making purchases on unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.
Home and Package Security
- Lock doors and windows at all times, and use timers on lights to make your home appear occupied.
- Keep gifts out of view from windows, and teach children not to open doors for anyone without approval.
- When ordering packages, opt for secure delivery options or send items to locations where someone will be available to receive them.

- Let a trusted neighbor or friend know your travel plans, and ask them to collect your mail and monitor your home.
