Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Secures Grant to Combat Aggressive Driving and Enhance Traffic Safety

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has announced that the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is among 26 law enforcement agencies in Georgia receiving a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) grant for the Federal 2025 Fiscal Year. The award totals $29,528.04.

The H.E.A.T. program aims to combat crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired driving and speeding, while also promoting seatbelt use and public education on traffic safety and DUI dangers.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit will utilize the grant to develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing local traffic crashes resulting from aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.

“Federal and state crash data show sustained enforcement of traffic laws reduces crashes and saves lives on our roads,” stated Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. He emphasized the importance of partnerships between GOHS and local law enforcement to implement projects that enhance road safety and work toward the goal of zero traffic deaths in Georgia and nationwide.

H.E.A.T. grants support specialized traffic enforcement units in counties with the highest rates of traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities, with funding awarded based on impaired driving and speeding data.

Bibb Sheriff David Davis expressed gratitude for receiving the grant, highlighting the positive impact of the H.E.A.T. unit on local road safety. “We can be proud of the work the H.E.A.T. unit has done to make our roads safer to travel in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety,” he said, emphasizing the unit’s success in reducing traffic crashes through efforts to stop aggressive driving behaviors.

As participants in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI campaign and the Click It Or Ticket seatbelt campaigns, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office will conduct mobilizations throughout the year in coordination with GOHS’s high-visibility patrols, multi-jurisdictional road checks, and sobriety checkpoints.
