Liberty Middle School Student in Newton County Taken Into Custody for Making Terroristic Threats

On September 17, 2024, a 13-year-old student from Liberty Middle School in Covington was taken into custody by the Juvenile Court System following an investigation by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation stemmed from threats made by the juvenile on the school bus after classes on September 16th.

The juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and acts.

Sheriff Ezell Brown emphasized that all threats or acts of violence will be treated with seriousness, and those responsible will be held accountable. He urged students and parents to understand that any threats against the Newton County School System, or any school system, will be taken seriously.
