Brooks County Teen Charged with Felony Terroristic Threats Against Middle School

On September 5, 2024, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) charged a 13-year-old minor from Brooks County with felony terroristic threats and computer trespass. The charges stem from threats made against Brooks County Middle School.

The investigation began after the Brooks County Schools Police Department discovered a threatening text message on an internal messaging platform used by teachers and students. The message threatened a shooting at the school. GBI agents and school police investigated the threat, identifying the juvenile responsible. During an interview, the juvenile claimed the post was intended as a prank. It was confirmed that the juvenile had been attending classes virtually and had not been on school property.

Following consultations with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the juvenile was detained and taken to a Regional Youth Detention Center. The case remains active.
