Atlanta Police Department Launches C.A.R.E. Unit for Non-Emergency Calls

To enhance service efficiency, the Atlanta Police Department has introduced a new unit dedicated to handling non-emergency calls. The Community Assistance REsponders (C.A.R.E.) Unit was officially deployed on July 11, 2024, after completing a 14-week training program. This initiative aims to allow sworn officers to focus on high-priority emergency situations.
The C.A.R.E. Unit is responsible for managing non-injury related accidents, vandalism calls, and traffic direction. Six members of the first graduating class of the C.A.R.E. Unit participated in the APD Graduation Ceremony on August 13, 2024. An additional five individuals are currently undergoing training to join the team.
To qualify for the C.A.R.E. Unit, candidates must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, and demonstrate strong communication skills.
